End of 2017 and into 2018

Hello everyone!

First thing I want to say is sorry for not being more consistent with these blog posts. I have decided I am going to have a schedule. I am going to start posting updates at least once a month on the 15th of each month. This is starting in January! I will try to do two a month, but I am only guaranteeing an update once a month on the 15th. This should make it better for anyone who wants to read on my updates and a consistent way to check!

Let’s do a brief 2017 review. 2017 has been a fantastic year for me for many reasons. I finished and released Galactic Conflicts: First Contact. I sold more than I thought I would and I learned a ton while doing it! Formatting the book is a pain and I now know how to do a much better job. When I first published the book, I didn’t see some of the formatting errors, this will not happen again. My job has been going great, I have more then enough free time to write almost every day and do other things I enjoy. Whether I want to play video games, watch a show or do whatever, I can do all that and write without feeling constrained on time.

I will say that after releasing the first book, I took about 4 months off. I think I wrote 2k words in July (I released the book in April), but didn’t really start pounding away until September/October. While I was writing, I wrote 18k words in October, 25k in November and roughly 20k or so this month. I do believe my first draft will be done either at the end of January or February, which was my initial goal. Then the fun of editing starts, but so far I am confident this book will be released at the end of 2018. Anything can happen, but so far I am still confident I can make that deadline.

It’s pretty surprising to me at just how much writing I am getting done compared to when I started my first book. It took me far longer than 4 months to get as many words down as I have now and it took me around 15 months to finish my first draft. I read a bunch of forums and saw a lot of writers say that the first book takes forever, then the second one gets done faster, then the third gets done faster then the second and so on. Wasn’t sure how true that would be, but so far it appears to be!

So what are my plans for 2018? Like I said earlier, I want to post a blog update on the 15th of every month. I want to post a chapter of the 2nd book as a blog update in the first half of the year. I want to have the book completed and released by the end of 2018 (December 31st would count! Although I am hoping for a November release). Can’t seem to think of any other goals, but those are ones to start with!

This is a bit shorter than planned. I hope everybody had a great Christmas and soon to be a new year.

See you all in the new year and I hope every single one of you has a great one.

Happy New Years!
